Connecting to Asian Culture

by Lisa Sanford

In May we can celebrate National Pacific Asian Heritage Month no matter what race, creed, nationality or color you are. Take a moment to reflect on how you connect to the Asian culture. Have you visited a certain place, have you been to an asian restaurant or market? Do you ever wear asian inspired clothing, drank green tea? Oh there are so many ways to connect to a culture without even trying hard...martial arts, dance, music, movies or words are just a few.

I came across the Japanese phrase kodomo no kao...I can't pronounce it, but it means "the look on a young person's face at play". What a perfect title for some quick snapshots of my son proudly showing off his lego creation. Take a moment this month to reflect on how many times and the ways in which you connect to an Asian culture. I bet you do in more ways than one.
