Love?

I love the fact that I am able to witness history in the making. I love the fact that my father turns 70 years old, one day before the 41st Super Bowl and he gets to witness not one but two Black head coaches play in the championship game. I love the fact that I remember watching the first Black gymnast in the Olympics and got to see the first Black woman be an astronaut. I love the fact that 22 years after my Dad got suspended from school for questioning why there were no Black cheerleaders at his school that I got to march and twirl on the very same football field as the first Black Featured Twirler.

I love the fact that I was part of a grassroots effort to get Black representation on the front cover of a scrapbook magazine. I love the passion that prompted the creation of the first website featuring the works of African-American scrapbookers. I love it when my kid’s entire elementary school focuses on Black history for the whole month of February. I love it when a scrapbooker tells me they aren’t “ethnic” but still manage to create a layout with an “ethnic feel” as in the case of this month’s layout. The point to all of this lovely talk…is to inspire you to record what you love about your ethnic heritage.
