During this holiday season, whether or not you celebrate Kwanzaa, I’ve got a fun project for you and your family. I don’t do the traditional Kwanzaa rituals the week after Christmas, but I do try to attend at least one celebration through out the week and focus on how we demonstrated Kwanzaa principles throughout the year.
This layout can be a project that you work on throughout the week. I’ve used embellishments that represent the symbols of Kwanzaa. Most of these embellishments are from Jolee’s Boutique by EK Success. The mat (Mkeka) is actually part of a laundry hamper that I cut to resemble a straw mat. You can either make your items or use clip art, hand drawings or stickers. Whatever you use is okay…the more homemade it is, the better. In the spirit of hand making items and Kwanzaa I used earthy colors and twine. On the bottom left hand corner is an actual mini album attached to the page. This mini-album is the Kwanzaa principle and its definition on the left hand side and a photograph demonstrating the principle on the right.
This is a great way to reflect on the past year by sitting down every night during the weeklong Kwanzaa celebration and looking through your photographs to find one that represents the principle.
Be sure to join us in the forum December 26-Jan 1 to celebrate Kwanzaa and to learn the 7 principles that make up this week long celebration. |
