Scraps of Color is a celebration of African American Scrapbookers. It is an informational web site created to share scrapbooking ideas, inspiration, education and resources. It is a place for African American Scrappers to make a connection that is familiar and to celebrate our history, our culture and that which is unique to us...ie Juneteenth, Kwanzaa etc.

How long have you been in business? 2 years
How did you get started? Classy Coordinates is actually an extension of my teaching and love of scrapbooking. Before, moving to GA, I taught scrapbooking classes in Chicago. When my students learned of my leaving they wanted to continue to take my classes long distance! What a compliment. I put together a class kit for them each month, but this was for a small group of people. As I started to get acclimated to our new life in GA and branch out to cropping and teaching in GA, my students, as well as scrappers at the crops always complimented my color combinations and how I coordinated my layouts. They also would always say my layouts were clean and classy. One day I decided that I’d like to truly give it a go with the kits and thus Classy Coordinates was born. I had belonged to other clubs but found getting a BIG box of supplies was a bit overwhelming and I rarely used the supplies up. I didn’t like spending $30-$40 on a kit, that I wasn’t using. I wanted to create a kit that was affordable, fun and usable, enter the Classy Pak. I wanted to create a community of scrapbookers who enjoyed sharing with others and I wanted to be active with this group thus Classy Scrappers.
As for Scraps of Color it is simply a labor of love. I am very active in the Scrapbooking Community and rarely do I meet or see other African American Scrappers. I think this hobby has so many great benefits that we all should enjoy. So much of our history has been lost and somewhere along the way we should be saving our stories, as well. I wanted to introduce this hobby to more African Americans and to give them a place that feels familiar.
Where do you see Classy Coordinates and Scraps of Color in the future? I see Classy Coordinates continuing to grow and expand. We are participating more in local scrapbooking events and will be teaching and exhibiting at the larger expos/conventions, as well. We always have exciting opportunities for our members and we plan to expand our offerings in the future for scrappers everywhere. You’ll just have to stay tuned for the details!
My hope for Scraps of Color, since I am just now revamping the site, is to create a fun, wonderful, active community where we can share and learn from each other.
Tell us a little about your scrapbooking background. I began scrapbooking in 1998 as a personal hobby. I had my first layout published in 2001 and everything has been moving right along since then with the opening of my first business Memories 2 Hold, making scrapbooks for others http://www.memories2hold.com . Next, I began teaching and now Classy Coordinates and Scraps of Color. Both allow me to share my love of scrapbooking with a large audience. I still enjoy time cropping with friends and do so several times per month.
Tell us about your scrapbooking accomplishments: Other than my businesses my other accomplishments include being published in Creating Keepsakes, Memory Makers, PaperKuts, Ivy Cottage Creations just to name a few.
